Review of Bleach by Tite Kubo

Book Review: Bleach by Tite Kubo

In the first two weeks of school I finished a manga series called Bleach by Tite Kubo, I had started it earlier in the summer because it was a well known series, and I wanted to know what all the hype was about. Now I somewhat regret spending my time trying to find every book to read when i could have just read the plot through a Wikipedia article.

Bleach started with a boy named Ichigo Kurosaki, who can see and talk to ghosts. He meets a girl named Rukia Kuchiki as she randomly looks around his room for a hollow, a spirit which can harm humans and ghosts. Rukia is a Soul Reaper who can get rid of them. During her fight against the hollow Rukia gets injured and transfers her powers to Ichigo, who then becomes a Soul Reaper as well and defeats the hollow, now that he's a Soul Reaper he know defeats hollows as a job of sorts. That's the main premise without major spoilers.

Bleach started out as a series that I really enjoyed, the characters were good, the art style was nice, and it worked really well with the fight scenes. The plot was also pretty good, up until the end of the 2nd/3rd big arc, then, the plot, and characters, started going steadily downhill.

Frankly, I still do love Bleach, a lot. I probably would've read it even if I knew what would happen to the plot and characters, however, if you are someone who doesn't take to kindly to mischaracterization, and ending plot holes, I wouldn't exactly be that enthusiastic on recommending it all the way to the end. However, if you still want to read it, I would recommend reading it up to the end of that Arrancar arc. All in all I would rate the series a 4/5.

  3. I like how honest this book review was and how you talked about both the negative and positive aspects of the series. As a potential reader this really helped me know what to look out for/ consider before reading it!
